Dear Sara Jacobson
I am writing this letter to introduce myself and educate you more about who I am as a person
My name is Daquan Dennis and I am 18 years old. I love to travel and I’ve been to all sorts of different places. Some of which were Greece, Italy, England, Jamaica, and Germany. I enrolled in your class because I want to become an engineer like my youngest aunt. She works for the military and helps make chemical weapons for them. The type of engineer I want to be however is different from hers. I want to be a Computer Engineer because ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated with the world of Computer Technology. My most notable experience with computers is video editing, however. I used to edit full-length videos for internet “celebrities” but for the most part, I don’t think that’s gonna help me. All the achievements I’ve gotten consist of giving a speech at my Middle School graduation that left everyone with joy and excitement for the future. As well as creating visual art for decently known people. Which brings us to my talents! My talents consist of music, since I produce it as well as 3D animation. To do the 3D animation I use a free software called Blender and I create models and rigs to move the characters. As stated before as well, my talents also consist of visual art and thumbnail-making. I create visual representations of popular media such as games, trends, and many more. I also ended up making profits off my hard work to the point where I could make a decent amount of money from it, well more than a 16-year-old boy should be making anyway. For the Music, I make a variety of different genres. Raging from Rnb to Indie Rock, all the way to even hip hop, I’ve attempted it all. The music I’ve been focusing the most on however is Indie Rock and Hyperpop. They have the most unique and comforting sounds to me where I can just drift away into outer space without a care in the world. Learning to do all of this wasn’t easy. I struggled day in and day out, I was completely new for so long. After days of constant hard work, some ending in failure or disappointment and others just ending in me wanting to just give up on this fabricated dream I have in my mind. With all that being said I never once gave up and persevered through all the battles. But there is one battle I still haven’t won yet, and that is mastering engineering. The field of engineering is competitive but it’s always in high demand. I need to do something that stands out and that gets me recognized, I wanna be able to make a living off of a passion I have. I imagine my future as an engineer to be bright and inspiring. I wanna leave a mark and be able to make a name for myself as well for the people who support me and I will stop at nothing to achieve that goal. One of the engineering challenges I want to be involved with is making a computer so powerful that it can do anything. I want it to feel like a real person. It can give you the latest weather report, help you with your mental health, enjoy spending time with you, etc. I want to create artificial life. And now with the rise and spike of artificial intelligence, I think it is incredibly doable and in demand. Granted I don’t want Robots to replace jobs or anything, but there needs to be a company for people who are lonely and don’t know any better. Even if it’s not real, the connection can feel real and you can learn from it. Another challenge I wanna face is to build a computer that can help with space travel. Space seems practically endless and not knowing what else could be out there has always bugged me for as long as I’ve lived. What if there are other creatures besides us? What if people are Spying on us? What if other planets can be habitable by humans? All these questions need to be solved and need to be put to rest once and for all. The world of engineering has endless possibilities, but my main goal is to help people and encourage others to do the same no matter how hard it might seem.
